Sedation Dentistry

Sedation Dentistry

Many patients experience anxiety, fear, or nervousness about going to the dentist. This can be caused by a previous bad experience, fear of needles, or even a simple aversion to the sights and smells of the office. No matter what your anxiety may cause, our dentists at Dental 2000 are here to help you overcome it. We offer safe, effective sedation to make the visit comfortable and stress-free.

The Types of Sedation Dentistry

Oral Conscious Sedation

Oral conscious sedation involves taking a pill about an hour before your appointment to help you feel relaxed during your appointment. Many patients report feeling like they slept through their appointment but are still awake and able to respond to the dentist’s instructions if needed.

Nitrous Oxide Sedation

“Laughing gas” is a mild form of sedation dentistry that induces a warm, euphoric feeling. The level of relaxation will depend on how much nitrous oxide is administered and how quickly it wears off. Using nitrous oxide allows patients to inhale the sedative through a mask that fits over the nose, allowing them to relax during dental procedures without swallowing a pill. Patients do not fall asleep when using nitrous oxide sedation but may feel groggy or unaware of their surroundings after a procedure.

IV Sedation

When patients don’t feel comfortable at the dentist, they can experience significant anxiety or fear. With IV sedation dentistry, the dentist can administer a safe drug that will put you at ease during your visit. Patients are often unaware of the dental procedures being performed when they are under the power of IV sedation. This form of sedation is often used for lengthy or complex processes. The effects are felt instantly and can last several hours after the process is complete.

The Advantages of Sedation Dentistry

Less Time in the Chair

For patients who are especially sensitive during dental procedures, sedation dentistry can be highly beneficial in minimizing anxiety and fear associated with the dentist’s office, allowing them to receive the treatment they need in less time.

Increased Health

Patients who avoid necessary dental care because of fear and anxiety put themselves at risk for developing severe oral health issues in the future that can require invasive and expensive procedures to address. When patients receive regular care from a sedation dentist, they keep their teeth healthy and avoid needing more complex treatments that take a toll on the body.

Convenient for Everyone

During your procedure, you’ll be so relaxed and comfortable that you won’t even be aware of what’s happening around you! No matter how severe your anxiety or fear of the dentist, sedation dentistry can help you overcome it and get the care you need.
